Meadows ShopMobility is located in central Chelmsford and is co-ordinated by Geraldine Roe. She leads 12 dedicated volunteers who provide a mobility scooter and wheelchair loan service five days a week. These dedicated members are supported by a select number of Trustees led by Chairperson Brian Poole. Meadows ShopMobility is committed to membership fees that are affordable for all service users.

This Essex-based, self-funding charity is proud of its services which include day and holiday hires. These are available to anyone aged 16+* and customers do not need to be registered disabled. Customers with a temporary mobility issue, such as a leg injury, are very welcome to hire equipment and you don’t have to be a local resident to benefit from their services.

The centre has an impressive range of equipment including large and folding mobility scooters, electric and manual wheelchairs and products for children and bariatric customers. Whatever mobility needs a customer may have, Meadows ShopMobility will strive to provide independence with peace of mind.

The centre regularly invests in new equipment and has recently added two new car boot scooters to its fleet. These compact folding products are ideal for users who wish to travel on a coach or public transport – the centre can provide holiday loans for low cost and with a deposit. Manual wheelchairs are also available on the holiday hire scheme and continue to be in high demand as ‘staycations’ are so popular these days.

Chelmsford ShopMobility is proud of its Charity Charter. This aims to help people be confident, independent and free around the city, whilst supporting individuals in their homes and when on holiday. It also manages a second-hand bookshop which supports funding for the centre as it successfully recycles unwanted literature and puzzle games.

The team is currently looking to recruit new volunteers especially receptionists and mobility scooter operatives. More Trustees are also always welcome.
