If you are thinking about using a scooter through our services for the first time, you might be a little apprehensive. If so don’t worry, all our team members are here to help ease your nerves, so you feel confident when out and about.

The ShopMobility UK team members at each centre will firstly assess your needs and then recommend the right scooter or powered wheelchair for maximum comfort and independence. They will demonstrate the equipment, showing you all the controls, followed by a chance for you to practice driving in a safe place. Once you feel ready, the team will give you the green light to go and enjoy your day with carefree mobility.

Here are a few tips to remember:

1. Take your time to familiarise yourself with the controls, especially the steering and how to start and stop.

2. If you need extra support, take a friend or relative with you while you try a scooter.

3. Before you hire a scooter, think about where you’d like to go and how far.

4. Consider the weather before you go out, if it’s raining it might not be as pleasurable.

5. Before setting off on your scooter, make sure you are comfortable with the seat and tiller position.

6. Go and enjoy your independence!

When using ShopMobility UK services you also do not have to worry about the cost. The hire prices at each centre do vary however they are typically low and sometimes free! The option to leave a discretionary donation may also be a choice.

Most centres are flexible when it comes to the length of equipment loans during the day. A selection of locations also provide longer loans for products such as wheelchairs. It is always best to check what’s available with your local centre.
